The Story
In the late 1990’s, the establishment of another tertiary medical center in Negros Oriental was planned by several groups of physicians due to increasing need for medical care and
shortage of hospital beds. There were a lot of barriers encountered such as availability of lots with ideal hospital location, cost of building construction, and hospital equipment. After successfully overcoming these initial obstacles, the next problems encountered were the permit to construct by the Department of Health and other numerous regulatory requirements of the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Local Government of Dumaguete City.
During the latter half of 2009, the first meeting for planning and discussion was held at Don Atilano Restaurant, Dumaguete City. This was subsequently followed by a series of brainstorming meetings together with other consultant medical practitioners and suppliers of laboratory and medical equipment. Initial efforts failed despite attempts to find logical solutions to the problems encountered.
In August 2014, the local medical practitioners became aware of the existence of ACE MEDICAL CENTER Group of Hospitals having seen the need to established tertiary hospitals in the Visayas. The corporation is led by the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Amado C. Enriquez, Jr.
The corporation has several fully operational hospitals and linkages in Metro Manila. This providential moment spurred Dr. Jonathan C. Amante to present the medical statistics andthe gaps in healthcare of Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental during the ACE Board Meeting in the second week of August 2014 held at Gloria Maris Restaurant, Greenhills, San Juan City.
On October 25, 2014, local representatives visited the ACE Medical Center Group of Hospitals in Metro Manila. Inspired by what the group saw, the idea to partner with ACEMC Group of Hospitals intensified. Dr. Jonathan Amante then spearheaded the organization of the ACE Dumaguete Doctors Incorporated, with its founding members composing of both the Manila and Dumaguete medical practitioners. A series of meetings were then conducted by the twenty-eight (28) Dumaguete based Founding Members.
On November 8, 2014, the ideal hospital location was chosen from three different sites during the joint meeting of the Dumaguete and Manila Founding Members of ACE Dumaguete Doctors Inc. This long-awaited golden opportunity initiated a cascade of events and snowballed with the approval of all the regulatory requirements, including the Permit to Construct No. 14-1140 by the Department of Health. The Groundbreaking Ceremony and the first General Assembly of the founding members proceeded on June 28, 2015.
